morning clouds

one tire up in smoke

what an awesome evening it was, last night, the LCD at PBS said 87 but it felt so comfortable.
how crazy is that the high 80s feels cool now, we're gonna freeze when the weather turns.
but no worrying about that now with a cold beer and a cigar.

Watch This, A Streetcar Named Desire

Now I see what all the fuss is about, there was some heavy lifting in the acting department going on in this movie, off the top of my head I can't think of a movie more depended on the acting and everyone except maybe the secondary characters did incredibly.
Marlon Brandon in his prime, wow, now I understand all the women swooning over him, between the acting and his looks no wonder he had it all, it must have been over whelming and I guess it was.

Funny how sometimes your idea of a movie which you haven't seen before can get blown away almost instantly, when Blanche gets off the train and askes "They told me to take a streetcar named Desire" I had always thought the desire reference was just a metaphor for her experience at the Kowalski apartment. I hadn't realized it was an actual streetcar.
Its also kind of funny that Kim Hunter playing Stella was maybe more well know as Zira.
Or not.

Something for everyone, Alex dozes off as Julie sheds a few tears.

City Chooses Vine Street Route for Streetcar

Vine Street alternative the least expensive, least challenging and best for expansions

After a comprehensive analysis, the City of Cincinnati announced today that it has chosen the Vine Street alternative as the route the streetcar will take to reach the Uptown area. City officials explained that the Vine Street route is the least expensive, offers the fewest engineering challenges and best positions the streetcar for future expansion.“Our direction from city council has always been to ‘connect the dots,’ but to do so in a way that was fiscally responsible,” said Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney. “The Vine Street route accomplishes that.”

The City and a group of stakeholders along both Vine Street and the alternative route, West Clifton Avenue, have been meeting to collect input and share ideas about each route for months. The group was informed of the City’s decision at a meeting this afternoon. “There is a lot of excitement about the streetcar and its potential,” said Mr. Dohoney. “This was a very engaged group.”

The City estimated the West Clifton route would have added some $20 million to the streetcar’s construction cost and $250,000 annually to operations. The Vine Street route is also not as steep, has fewer curves and offers a shorter commute time. The Vine Street route also connects the streetcar to University Plaza, Kroger, the Short Vine entertainment district and The Christ Hospital, and is a logical jump-off point for future routes that would include University Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s and the Zoo.

“In the final analysis, the Vine Street route is our best alternative,” said Mr. Dohoney.

Parker Flats

The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments was on the roof shooting video to put together an information piece to educate area leaders and people on the replacement bridge.
I have a better idea for reducing congestion on the bridge, put a toll on it, if people really want and need it they should be willing to pay for it right? And don't give me any crap on we need it for the economy, the study they did showed for every dollar invested in the bridge it will return $0.28 in benefit. Now they way I figure it the streetcar is going to return $2.78 and the CAVE* men say thats a boondoggle, and its gonna have a return 9 times better than the bridge so how much of a waste is the bridge to nowhere?
It was kind of interesting watching everything go by, can't believe I didn't get the camera up fast enough for the helicopter on the truck.

later on with all my yuppie free time and disposable income we were off to Soho for some sushi. You need the disposable income that only a McyD's hamburger flipper can earn to eat at Soho. Or so some people would have you believe.

Watch This

Watch This, if somehow you haven't heard, is watching all AFIs top 100 films this year. Last week we hosted #52 From Here to Eternity. Made in 1953 somehow I thought the time frame after WWII and it made sense in that context. Containing some heavy hitters of acting it was interesting just how poor that acting was, everyone was punching the time card and collecting a paycheck I guess. Except for Frank Sinatra playing a, wait for it, stereotypical Italian. Well, if it was typecasting it worked, the screen seemed to light up a little when he was on.
One thing I want to know, why is everyone in these old movies so angry? No one can ask a simple question with raising hackles and sparking a confrontation.

A Reds game, take notes, this will play a pivotal role later on.

Three separate stories seemed to be going on, took a while to wrap my head around the fact there was no lead actor, all these loves stories and plot lines shuffling down the path until, they cut to a sunrise over Pearl Harbor.
OH, this is 1941, not the 50's. Wow, what a bummer, wonder what watching this movie was like in 1953 only 12 yrs removed from the fact?
Anyhow everyone's world ends as the Japanese begin to bomb.
And on cue, the Reds win, fireworks!
The whole sky behind the TV is lit up with flashes, echoing the bombs in the movie. It was just a little surreal and absolutely amazing.
